Twenty years ago, on Sunday 15th October 2006, the Vietnam War Memorial, Adelaide, was opened by Lieutenant General Sir Donald Dunstan.

Thousands attended the commemoration at the Torrens Parade Ground. Australian veterans and Vietnamese veterans, and families witnessed the special commemoration.

The Department of Veterans’ Affairs is releasing a commemorative coin to mark the 25th anniversary of Australian service in Afghanistan (2001–2021) and to honour those who served.

A well attended Afghanistan 25th Anniversary Commemoration was held on Saturday 10th October at the Post WW2 Memorial, in fine Adelaide spring weather.

On Tuesday 18th August, the Vietnam War Commemorative Service was conducted by RSL SA at the Vietnam War Memorial adjacent to the Torrens Parade Ground, Adelaide, commenced at 2pm. It was well attended by veterans, families, ADF members, Vietnamese community and public.

This morning RSL South Australia hosted a service to commemorate the end of Korean War hostilities in 1953.

Several dozen people representing the Korean community, state government, Defence, veterans, families and the public paid their respects.

The King’s Birthday 21 gun artillery salute was fired on the Torrens Parade Ground at 12 noon on Saturday 6th June 2026.

The Civilian Service Medal 1939-1945 was awarded to those who rendered service in support of the broader war effort.

The medal recognises civilians who served in arduous circumstances in organisations with military-like arrangements and conditions of service. Examples of roles are Australian Women's Land Army, the Civil Construction Corps, Red Cross Emergency Service Companies and other eligible groups.

The 2026 Aboriginal Veterans' Commemorative Service was conducted on Friday 29th May at the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander War Memorial, Torrens Parade Ground, Adelaide.
