AFGHANISTAN 25TH ANNIVERSARY 2001 - 2026
To commemorate the 25th anniversary of Australian service in Afghanistan the RSL will conduct a service on Saturday 10 October 2026, 4:00 pm at the Adelaide Post Second World War Memorial, adjacent to the SA National War Memorial, located on the corner of North Terrace and Kintore Avenue. Veterans, serving ADF members, families and the public are invited to attend.
This important milestone provides an opportunity to recognise and honour the thousands of Australian Defence Force personnel who served in Afghanistan between 2001 and 2021 through Operation SLIPPER (2001-2014) and Operation HIGHROAD (2015-2021).
As we mark twenty-five years since the commencement of Australia's involvement in Afghanistan, we reflect on the bravery, dedication, and sacrifice demonstrated by those who answered the call to serve, often undertaking multiple deployments in challenging and hazardous environments.
Following the commemorative service, attendees are invited to the Combined Ex-Services Mess at the Torrens Parade Ground for an opportunity to socialise. Light refreshments will be available.
Awarded medals may be worn. Please note that there is no parking available on the Torrens Parade Ground due to another event being held there. Attendees are requested to use street parking or nearby paid parking facilities.
