KOREAN WAR COMMEMORATION 25/7/25

On Friday 25th July the service to commemorate the 1953 cessation of Korean War hostilities was conducted in the Drill Hall at the Torrens Parade Ground. 

Her Excellency the Governor and Mr Bunten attended along with two Australian veterans of the Korean War, ADF representatives, the Hon. Joe Szakacs MP, RSL State President, veterans’ affairs representatives, members of the local Korean community, invited guests, ex-service organisation representatives, veterans and families.

Lieutenant Colonel Don Stewart (retd) spoke about the late Colonel Peter Scott DSO OAM as a driving force for this commemoration and the establishment of a Korean War Memorial in Adelaide. RSL Commemorations Manager Keith Harrison delivered the key address about the causes and consequences of the war and Australia’s commitment to it.

Tributes were placed and a tri-service Flag Party mounted and dismounted the Australian Flag. The Royal Australian Navy Band SA played the Vice-Regal Salute, incidental music, Last Post, Rouse and the national anthem. RSL State President Brad Flaherty recited the Ode.
