RSL RESPONSE TO US PRESIDENT’S CLAIMS
The RSL categorically rejects the assertion by United States’ President Donald Trump that allied forces "stayed a little back, a little off the front lines" in Afghanistan.
This claim is factually wrong, historically ignorant, and deeply offensive to the 47 Australian service personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice, the 261 wounded, and the nearly 40,000 Australians who served in our nation's longest war.

AUSTRALIA DAY AWARDS 2026
RSL South Australia State President Brad Flaherty was pleased to present Australia Day certificates and medallions to five people for their exceptional service to the veteran community and RSL.
Congratulations to Jo Grotto, Jeff Yates OAM, Ash Muir, Mark Wheaton and Ron Green.
AUSTRALIA DAY 2026
At midday on Australia Day, Monday 26th January, at the Torrens Parade Ground, Australian Defence Force gunners from 6/13 Battery fired a 21 Gun Salute to honour the day.

RSL SYMBOL CHANGE
The Returned & Services League of Australia (RSL) approved an update to the RSL Badge on 16th October.
The updated badge features the Tudor Crown, adopted by RSL Australia’s Patron, King Charles III. In keeping with the connection to remembrance and service, the new badge also introduces rosemary and a poppy, two enduring Australian symbols of remembrance, alongside the golden wattle, our national floral emblem.
COWELL REMEMBRANCE PARK
Cowell Remembrance Park was opened on 11th November. Over several years the Cowell RSL, the District Council of Franklin Harbour and Virtual War Memorial Australia have researched and developed the concept of a memorial park dedicated to the 38 WW1 and WW2 veterans named on the Cowell Cenotaph.
MERCHANT NAVY DAY 3/9/25
Merchant Navy Day was commemorated with a service at the Navigator Memorial, Port Adelaide.
Lest We Forget their service and sacrifice in maintaining supplies during wartime, and in peacetime for stability of our large, island nation.
VIETNAM WAR COMMEMORATION 18/8/25
On Monday 18th August, the Vietnam War Commemorative Service was conducted by RSL SA at the Vietnam War Memorial, Torrens Parade Ground, Adelaide. It was attended by His Excellency the Governor’s Deputy Dr Richard Harris SC OAM and Mrs Fiona Harris, veterans, families, ADF members, Vietnamese community and public.
VP DAY SERVICE 15/8/25
A commemorative service for the 80th anniversary of the WW11 Japanese surrender was conducted on Friday 15th August, at the WW11 Wall of Remembrance at the SA National War Memorial. The Governor and Mr Bunten, General Sir Peter Cosgrove, WW11 veterans, families, ADF service chiefs and public attended.
General Sir Peter Cosgrove delivered the key address.
