RSL SYMBOL CHANGE
The Returned & Services League of Australia (RSL) approved an update to the RSL Badge on 16th October.
The updated badge features the Tudor Crown, adopted by RSL Australia’s Patron, King Charles III. In keeping with the connection to remembrance and service, the new badge also introduces rosemary and a poppy, two enduring Australian symbols of remembrance, alongside the golden wattle, our national floral emblem. These replace the leek, rose, thistle, and shamrock, representing our connection to Wales, England, Scotland and Ireland, respectively.
The RSL Badge has undergone several changes over its 109-year history, particularly to mark the link to its Royal patronage, with the last Badge change in 1990.
The RSL is adopting a cost-effective transition, introducing the new badge gradually, in accordance with King Charles’ wishes to avoid unnecessary expenditure. The existing RSL badge will be “grandfathered” but remain valid. Digital assets will be replaced first, followed by physical badges, merchandise and signage, which will gradually be replaced as part of routine replacement of physical assets.
