COASTAL COMMAND MEMORIAL 30/3/26

In fine Adelaide weather, a new Coastal Command Memorial was dedicated by Chaplain Carl Aiken OAM on the Pathway of Honour, Adelaide. The memorial acknowledges the service and sacrifice of RAAF and RAF personnel during WW11, on many missions over the North Atlantic, English Channel, North Sea and the Mediterranean.

The keynote address was delivered by Wing Commander Liam Colreavy, Commanding Officer of 10 Squadron Royal Australian Air Force. View Wing Commander Colreavy’s Address.

The Ode of Remembrance was recited by Mr Josh Rooney. Commander Alexander Ward AM RAN, son of a Coastal Command navigator, spoke of his connection and acknowledged those involved in the memorial's development.

Uniformed RAAF personnel attended and made up much of the audience of veterans and descendants. Afterwards attendees enjoyed morning tea in the RSL Memorial Hall, catered by Mr Tony Chaplin OAM.

The memorial was established by Professor Robert Goldney AO and is a testament to his father, Flight Sergeant Murray Goldney's, Coastal Command service with 547 Squadron RAF, and loss over the Bay of Biscay in 1944 https://vwma.org.au/explore/people/514668

RSL South Australia was honoured to work with Professor Goldney on this memorial project.
